Euan's Guide Review

Euan’s Guide which provides disabled access reviews, are good friends of ours and popped along to try a tour and give us feedback. It was a great experience for everyone, our guide included, and they left a very nice review on Euan’s Guide with some tips based on their time with us;

‘We decided to try out the Secrets of the Royal Mile tour and see what might unfold. The tour started on the Royal Mile by the Mercat Cross and consisted of a guided walk along the street and dipping in to the closes. As a powerchair user it was fabulous to find a tour that was able to bring the history alive for me and included me in the exploring!’

Information you need

All of our Storytellers are trained to adapt tours for visitors where needed. Our most readily accessible public tours are Secrets of Edinburgh's Royal Mile, Witches: Trial & Truth, and Ghostly Tales of Edinburgh's Royal Mile. These tours are predominantly outdoors, accessible for wheelchair users, and we can provide transportable stools for those who may wish to sit between stories.

We also offer use of our sensory bags. Sensory bags are designed to enhance focus and promote relaxation during cognitively demanding tasks. While they can be particularly beneficial for individuals with sensory processing differences, such as those with autism or ADHD, they are suitable for anyone who may find them helpful.

We offer 2 kinds of bags, one for younger people, containing sunglasses, a lantern, tangle toy, elastic fidget toy, reversible plush octopus and speaking cards; and one for older people, which contains sunglasses, a lantern, tangle toy, fidget cube, squashy cube and speaking cards.

Full details about the accessibility of Edinburgh's Blair Street Underground Vaults and other tours can be found within our Inclusivity Statement. Assistance dogs are welcome on all of our tours.

We also provide complimentary tickets for carers when booking a full price child/concession/adult ticket.

Wanting to reserve a portable stool or sensory bag?

More to help you choose

To make it as easy as possible to see what our tours involve, we’ve developed our Mercat Tours Inclusivity Statement. You’ll find lots of detailed information about tour routes, buildings visited and facilities available with clear dimensions and pictures to help you decide which is best for you. We are always happy to help if you’d like to call and chat with our team.
